[A part of Video Stores in Films tribute.]
The recollections of Tom and Summer’s relationship (Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel respectively), oscillating between excitement and misery, contain a visit to a video store – a definitely happy memory. They’re talking about Ringo Starr in front of the TV section – the only cinematic reference is the poster of Michael Powell’s Peeping Tom (1960).
But Summer is the one who wants to peep. While both of them are peeping in the adults section, lots of DVDs are shown in a single shot. Some of them are: Tom Shadyac’s Bruce Almighty (2003), Les Mayfield’s Encino Man (1992), Oliver Hirschbiegel’s The Invasion (2007), James Mangold’s 3:10 to Yuma (2007), Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s 28 Weeks Later (2007), Andrew Dominik’s The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007), Robert Ben Garant’s Balls of Fury (2007), Paul Greengrass’Â The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up (2007), John Dahl’s You Kill Me (2007), Greg Mottola’s Superbad (2007), Mike Cahill’s King of California (2007), Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s Thirteen (2007).
Scenes from Marc Webb’s (500) Days of Summer (2009).
More: (500) Days of Summer (I).
