This crazy Polish comedy, set near the end of the communist years, uses the plot of The Purple Rose of Cairo in order to ridicule censorship methods. Characters of the fictional film “Daybreak” refuse to read their lines and start talking with the audience, provoking the officials. The latter are informed from a film critic that they will find a solution if they watch Woody Allen’s film (!) in which the same incident happens. They do watch the film, but the characters of “Daybreak” are too strong to surrender.

Woody Allen’s The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) in Wojciech Marczewski’s Escape from the ‘Liberty’ Cinema (1990).
