[A part of Video Stores in Films tribute.]
– Hello, welcome to Masterpiece Video. How may I help you this afternoon, sir?
– I’m looking for a copy of 8 1/2.
– Is that a new release, sir?
– No, it’s the classic Italian film.
– Yes, sir. I’ll just check that on the computer for you, sir. [he types on the computer] Yes, here it is. 9 1/2 Weeks with Mickey Rourke. That would be in the Erotic Drama section.
– No, not 9 1/2, 8 1/2. The Fellini film?
The desperate customer.
The bored customers. Enid and Rebecca (Thora Birch and Scarlett Johansson respectively) are not really interested in watching a film. Films that are visible: Spike Lee’s He Got Game (1998), Forest Whitaker’s Hope Floats (1998) and Jocelyn Moorhouse’s How to Make an American Quilt (1995).
The curious customer. He watches the trailer of a fake film that called The Flower that Drank the Moon, a humorous example of pretentious art-house film. Behind him, clearly seen among others, Brian De Palma’s Scarface (1983).
Scenes from Terry Zwigoff’s Ghost World (2001).
